Non-destructive testing
When we talk about non-destructive tests in the world of industry, we refer to tests conducted using methods that do not alter the products or materials they are made of and that do not require the taking of samples from the structure to identify possible anomalies or defects in the product itself.
QOC Solutions, a company based in Vaprio D’Agogna, specialises in the design and manufacture of quick opening closures for pressure and non-pressure equipment. The company can boast an internal team of qualified specialists in charge of quality control of all products manufactured by the factory in the province of Novara: QOC Solutions’ quick opening closures are subject to strict controls that certify their absolute compliance with national and international standards, including fundamental non-destructive tests.
There are many control methods available; our company uses all those indicated by the regulations, i.e. MT-PT-UT tests.
- MT – Magnetoscopy: the test is characterized by the use of magnetic particles that allows the detection of both surface and sub-surface defects. This type of inspection can be carried out only in the presence of ferromagnetic materials and consists of the magnetisation of the product to be checked and in the use of individual detectors containing ferromagnetic particles. The presence of discontinuities on the analysed surfaces determines leaks of magnetic field flux that attract these particles.
- PT – Penetrating liquids: the penetrating fluid tests are aimed at highlighting defects on the surface of the product. The control is simple: the quick opening closure component (BW) is sprinkled with solutions containing dyes; if there are any surface discontinuities, the liquids flow inside them. Once the excess solution has been removed from the area, any defect can be detected through special tools.
- UT – Ultrasonic: the ultrasonic test is a type of volumetric control that is based on the propagation of ultrasonic waves in the tested object and in the interpretation of signals reflected, diffracted or transmitted by possible defects of the product. Thanks to the use of cutting edge tools, which show prominent peaks on digital screens when a fault is present, it is possible to identify precisely the point where the problem is.
